Sonoma County partners with local Fire Districts to offer free wildfire resiliency workshops ahead of peak wildfire season

SANTA ROSA, CA | August 18, 2025

Sonoma County residents are invited to attend free online workshops this August and September to learn about practical steps for protecting their homes and communities from wildfire.

Hosted by Sonoma County’s Fire Prevention Division, in partnership with local fire districts, the one-hour webinars will cover home hardening, defensible space, insurance considerations, local resources, and how to sign up for a free wildfire risk assessment.

“Wildfire is a reality in Sonoma County, but by taking small steps now, we can greatly reduce the chance of homes igniting,” said Sonoma County Fire Marshal Steve Mosiurchak.

Workshop Schedule

  • Larkfield-Wikiup: Wednesday, Aug. 20 | 6–7 p.m. | Register Today!
  • Lower Russian River / Guerneville: Thursday, Aug. 28 | 6–7 p.m. | Register Today!
  • Penngrove / Sonoma Mountain: Wednesday, Sept. 10 | 6–7 p.m. | Register Today!

Each workshop will provide information and resources tailored to its project area: Larkfield–Wikiup–Mark West, Lower Russian River–Guerneville, and Penngrove–Sonoma Mountain. Residents in these areas are also eligible for free wildfire risk assessments through the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) Grant.

While risk assessments are limited to the designated project areas, the workshops are open to everyone, and the information shared is relevant to all Sonoma County residents.

Spanish-speaking staff will be in attendance for questions, and a Spanish recording will be posted to the project website in September 2025.
